Expanding Your Horizons
Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) is an annual one-day conference designed to engage and inspire students to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).

What started in 1975 with a question: “Why aren’t there more girls in STEM courses?”, led to a national movement of local conferences like ours across the nation.
EYH brings together leaders and role models in medicine, biology, chemistry, research, design, programming, environmental science, and so much more, to offer opportunities to connect, get curious, ask questions, and enjoy learning.
Through accessible, hands-on workshops and interactive sessions, participants:
- Gain confidence from real life experiments and presentations
- Discover new interests through practical applications
- Connect with professionals they can relate to from a variety of STEAM fields
No prior experience is necessary just bring your curiosity and enthusiasm for learning about the world.
Who is EYH for?
The conference is a welcoming and inclusive space for all students who feel they would benefit from a program centered on empowering young women and gender minorities in STEAM.
EYH is designed especially for young women, and trans and non-binary students of all genders, including and especially youth who identify as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) in 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grades from across six counties in the South Sound region.
Access and representation are essential to advancing educational justice. That’s why we look for workshop presenters who are representative of the systemically-excluded students EYH is designed to attract.
When is EYH?
Expanding Your Horizons is held each spring in the Olympia area of South Puget Sound. Want to know when we start planning the next conference? Contact us at
